Frameless and framed glass office partitions for Melbourne workplaces

Frameless and framed glass office partitions for Melbourne workplaces

On-site consultation, custom doors and hardware, specified to AS1288. Published per-metre ranges, then a written quote.

Glass office partitions in Melbourne start with an on-site consult. Published standard frameless is $300-$500 per metre and semi-frameless is $250-$400 per metre, with custom glass, hardware, install, and door rows listed separately. Frosted or tinted glass hides a meeting. It does not soundproof one. Acoustic laminates, seals, and a proper door are a different spec. We plan to Melbourne building codes and AS1288.

How much do glass office partitions cost in Melbourne?

Published standard frameless is $300-$500 per metre. Semi-frameless is $250-$400 per metre. Custom glass types, premium hardware, installation, and custom doors are extra published rows. Those are ranges for the system on this page. A boardroom with acoustic laminate and a sealed door will sit on the custom-glass and door rows after the measure.

Fitout sequencing, manifestation, and acoustic mistakes are covered in office partitions in Melbourne and how to choose office partitions. Use this page for the service we sell and the published table. Do not mix a per-square-metre guide figure with this per-metre table and call it one price.

    What moves the quote

    • Height and run length. Full-height panels cost more glass and more handling.
    • Glass type: clear is the base. Frosted, tinted, printed, or acoustic laminate is processing.
    • Doors: sliding, pivot, locks, and drop seals.
    • Access: CBD lifts, after-hours loading docks, and existing ceilings. Flag those at quote stage. We do not promise after-hours as a default.

Frameless or framed: which system suits the floor?

Frameless is glass with patch fittings and minimal metal. It maximises light and looks like a showroom. Framed uses aluminium (or steel) channels and is the usual choice for longer runs, sliding doors, and when you need a place to hide seals. Both can be specified to AS1288. The frameless vs framed guide is the deeper comparison.

    Frameless

    • Published standard row: $300-$500 per metre.
    • Best for reception, collaborative zones, and short boardroom walls where the look matters.
    • Thickness is sized on site. Full-height frameless often starts at 10-12 mm toughened or a laminated build-up.

    Framed

    • More structure for larger spans and door tracks.
    • Easier to add acoustic seals and sliding leaves.
    • Still a glass wall. You are not buying a plaster office.

Every project starts with an on-site consultation: workflow, existing walls and ceilings, and how the glass meets other trades. Glass partitions usually install faster than plaster because there is no set time and less wet trade. That is a sequencing fact, not a promise you will have zero downtime.

    • •System chosen against span, doors, and acoustics
    • •AS1288 thickness decided on site
    • •Faster than plaster, still a coordinated install

Does glass stop people hearing the meeting?

No, not by itself. Clear or frosted single-pane glass is visual privacy. Speech still travels. Forum complaints about 'glass offices you can still hear' almost always used single glass with gaps at the head. If you need speech privacy, spec acoustic laminate, full-height seals, and a door with a drop seal. That lands on the custom glass and door rows.

    Privacy options we do list

    • Clear glass: light and oversight. Manifestation bands are still required on large uninterrupted panes so people do not walk into the wall. AS1288 and the NCC want a visible band between about 700 mm and 1200 mm above the floor.
    • Frosted or tinted: hides screens and faces. Does not add much Rw by itself.
    • Printed glass: branding. Same acoustic reality as clear unless it is also laminated acoustic.
    • Acoustic laminates: the actual sound path, with seals.

Safety thickness and manifestation are covered in the glass partition safety guide.

    • •Frosted is not acoustic
    • •Manifestation on large panes
    • •Acoustic spec includes the door, not only the pane

How install and care work in a live office

Project coordination covers fabrication, delivery, and install. We can discuss after-hours or weekend work when the building requires lift bookings and dust control. That is a quote line, not a standing promise. Flag loading-dock limits early. CBD, Docklands, and South Yarra buildings usually do.

    Care

Clean with glass cleaner and a non-abrasive cloth. Check hinges, locks, and seals. Do not lean bikes or boards on the glass. High-traffic cleaning notes are in the maintenance guide. Hardware that drops or a door that no longer seals is an inspection, not a new bottle of cleaner.

    How to choose

    • Write down whether you need quiet or only a visual split.
    • Ask for manifestation, door type, and seals on the quote.
    • Confirm AS1288 thickness for the height, not a catalogue photo.
    • •After-hours only when the building needs it and the quote says so
    • •Seals and doors are part of acoustic performance
    • •Maintenance is cleaning plus hardware checks
